Two Weeks Old

Dorian is two weeks old today!
The one picture I have to show that he isn't all gray. There is a tiny dot of white in his adams apple area.
This a playtime pose. He rolls onto his back and kicks his feet at me. Sometimes he grabs my finger and bites it. It's all a bit of fun and games for him.
He fell asleep like this last night. He played so hard he put himself to sleep.
Still no results from his new formula, but we are still hoping. He may have to go into see the vet. They'll let me know when I call them from an update.  Keep your fingers crossed!

In the sewing world, I finally finished a dress for a friend of mine. A couple of years ago, she entrusted me with some of her Mother's favorite Saris. I've been afraid to cut into them and ruin the fabric. But then I thought why not repurpose them into a summer dress?
So cut into it I did. And of course I forgot to take a before picture, but the picture below is as close to what this summer dress was before, just a different color.
Both of these special outfits have fancy beading. They have a weight to the edge which helps them hang well.
They are both so beautiful I've spent years being afraid of them. But I will see this friend this weekend at my cousin's Shower and I wanted to surprise her.
Do you think I'll surprise her? At least in a good way?

Have a great weekend and keep cool!
I'll be back next week to update you on Dorian and the Shower.

Take care, Brandie

Burping Dorian

Well whatever was upsetting Dorian the day before, seems to have passed. Unfortunately there was still no passing. But he eats and he leaks so that a start.
He likes to play and bite, drawing my finger to his mouth and attacking it. Just like an adult cat.
So keep your fingers crossed that the new formula will help and there will be some discharge soon!

P.S I hope you aren't reading this while eating. If so, my apologies!

Take care, Brandie

What a Sham

Many are asking for photos and daily updates on Dorian. I'll do my best with pictures but he's hard to photograph. We have more pictures of his sides then we do of his sweet face. He doesn't stay still for long.
Yesterday he didn't eat as much as he has been. He's fighting the bottle and sneezing up milk through his nose. Hopefully he'll continue to thrive.
He still has issues with... well issuing. After several YouTube videos, I hope we can fix that problem. Yesterday afternoon, he spent most of the day eating a bit, sleeping a bit and chewing on my finger.
It's really like having a human newborn again! I was tied to that couch with a baby on my lap all day. Thank goodness I could reach my iphone and answer emails and watch kitten videos.
I also completed just one hexie.
But I finally finished off...
My cousins shams! Everyday I would do a little bit. One line at a time and I finally finished them.
Her Bridal Shower is Saturday and I thought I'd give them to her then, kind of a teaser till she gets the quilt.
I laid the pillows on the quilt to take the pictures. They play nicely together.
Then I thought, I'll take it to the next level. So I started another pillow to match everything else. Then I had second thoughts and called BFF to ask her opinion.
She told me that everyone expects these kind of things from me and to do it.
So if anyone asks, BFF made me do it!

If I've gone to far with my little pillow, she can remove the buttons and still have a family heirloom. The buttons that is. I'm sharing the wealth and sharing Grandmother's buttons.
I plan on making the whole family something from those buttons, someday.
And the funny thing is, I still can't tell I used any blue buttons. The jar is still just a full as when I started, sigh.

Till later...

Hexie B.O.W

What's a hexie BOW? A block of the week hexie project.
I saw this beautiful hexie quilt over at Carla's. She was doing these gorgeous hexies and they were all different. They were amazing! I begged Carla to tell were I could get the pattern and she told me that her boss was designing them.
So I called her boss Katja and she was kind enough to sign me up on this hexie of the week group. I was so excited!
Then I got half the patterns and I was stumped for a color scheme. Any one who knows me knows this is one of my faults, I'm a creature of habit and color challenged.
Seeing Carla's hexies, I wanted to do her colors, but those are just not in my stash. So I thought, why not go with my favorite color, So I did.  That first hexie, I re-did it 3 times before settling. Who knows, I may redo it again and again.
Then I moved on to the second hexie and I have to say, I like this one, a lot, so it stays the way it is.
Then the third. I love this one!
So I'm just going to keep on and continue in scrappy reds.
I may add a plain hexie between each of these to tone it down. But I have several weeks to make that decision.
Between kitten feedings and chores, These may take awhile...

Dorian must be going through a growth spurt. He's finishing 3 bottles a day. He also woke up at 5 am this morning, which means I was up to feed him. Now I'm for my game and totally disorganized.
He has also been biting, if you can call it biting when you have no teeth. He thinks my fingers are for chewing on and how can I resist such a cute little thing?

Take care, Brandie

I have become a cat blogger

For all who asked, Dorian is doing great! He opened his eyes this weekend. They still don't look like they have pupils but they will change as he ages.
He is exploring, as long as it's not off his towel! This micro-fiber rag was the first thing I grabbed to hold him with. Now he won't venture away from it.
We are trying to hold him as much as possible to assimilate "Mom". Also to tame him as I suspect he is a feral cat.
He finish his first quart of goats milk this weekend. It only took a week, but I think it's a good sign.

In other news, I have been keeping up the garden. No sewing, but I have been watering and pruning.
These hydrangeas were so heavy, they were almost touching the ground. So I figured that they needed to be pruned and enjoyed inside. One really nice thing about hydrangeas, they last a long time.
Also while watering, I discovered that I have a whooping total of 5 lemons! 5 whole lemons!
I really am excited as this is the first time this baby tree has produced fruit. 5 lemons! That may be enough for a whole lemon meringue pie. Maybe

I started my new hexie project. I re-worked it several times but I think I know where I'm going with it now. Tomorrow I'll post some pictures. (assuming blogger loads them! I lost 2 pictures this time around.)

Take care, Brandie

Update

Dorian the Grey, is still hanging in there. His eyes still aren't open and that really makes us worry about his age. Today he'll have been with us a week.
He loves his milk and cuddling under my chin. That static purr is much stronger and louder. I think if these things as good signs.
Thank goodness he has started sleeping through the night! He really fills his belly at night! I'm a much better mommy replacement with sleep.
It has taken me days to put up my $4 fence, but I'm loving it. Shabby Chic? I don't know what it is, but it sets the mood and establishes this place as a "garden". In the past I've had people set all over plants and say they didn't know it was a garden because it didn't have a fence. Well this garden has a fence and an arch!  There will be no mistaking this isn't a place to walk!

Take care, Brandie

Garden Finds

I have mentioned before that Paradise is a very rural area. We are not your customary town with matching houses in matching neighborhoods. We are a unique community.
Our home is on a (depending on how you look at it) small acre lot. That back acre doesn't get much use, from us, but the wildlife loves it.
We have seen a family of foxes, smelled skunks, seen several deer and a gaze of raccoons.
Apparently there are more families we didn't know of.

Friday evening Hubby and I where out in the back. We both had been hearing this small noise most of the day. With all the bird babies everywhere, we assumed that's what we had been hearing. As darkness fell, we readied ourselves for bed. We could still hear the noise and Hubby went out to investigate.
This is what he found.
 An abandoned kitten.
It's eyes aren't even open. According to the internets, kittens eyes open 7 to 10 days after birth.
After reading up on how to care for it, because we couldn't leave it outside to fend for it's self on a mild night of 58 degrees.
I found a recipe using goats milk to feed it, and feed it did!
It's a ravenous little thing! So cute and tiny. The force is quite strong in this one.

It has been 3 nights of feeding every 3-4 hours. I'm a little tired, but I also feel pretty good about saving this little tike. He has started to purr and that I think that's a good sign and it warms my heart.

Of course I know better than to get too attached because these situations don't always come out as expected.

The garden fence has been put on hold as I work around kitten feedings.

I'll keep you posted as I find time.

Take care, Brandie
