We Had Snow

It snowed for about 2 hours yesterday afternoon. Not a lot, maybe about an inch at our house. We don't usually get a ton of snow, but we do have it. It doesn't snow often enough for the people around here to learn to drive in it. There are always accidents and yesterday was no exception.

I stayed home curled up by the fire, in my PJ's.

Today's goal is to finish up that crushed panne throw. Just the thought makes me want to run away, that stuff is not easy to work with!

Weekend Forcast

This weekend my friend E came to visit. We have been wanting to do a project together and found one in my new book. We both are using the same design, but our fabrics are vastly different. E is using Christmas prints while I am using the same as always.
I did manage to finish 3 of 3, in the flannels.........

My Daughter came to visit (do laundry), and played dress up with PugsLee. I think PugsLee is fine with the scarf, she use to be dressed in baby clothes.
There has been a prediction of snow. So we went out and bought a indoor house for the outdoor dog. After a bath, he settled down and dried off. PugsLee was having nothing to do with him. She is kind of a priss.
As of this morning, there is still no snow, thank goodness!

Weakness

I did it. I had to go out and buy fabric. My purpose was to buy the French General, Rouenneries. Well when I started looking around, I saw the Astor Manor collection in layer cakes. There was a defect in the pack, so I was told it would be 15% off. Well I did love the fabrics and the defect was on a pink, not my favorite, so I guess I needed to take it home. Do I have plans for it? Not yet, I'm still thinking.
Well I still yearned for the Rouenneries in jelly roll form. I thought they would be gorgeous as Dresden plates. So I went back to Morning Star and was very focused about my purpose in the store that day. My only problem was what to put the Dresden plates on? Well Debi, Talked me into the layer cakes as the background. Brilliant, now I'm just poorer. Still the best decision.

I'm an impatient person. I wanted those Dresden plates done last night. But I didn't have a fan or wedge ruler. How hard can it be to make my own template? I worked on that template till about 9pm last night and quickly cut out some wedges. Sewed them together and went to bed.

I thought I had done alright, till I took the pictures this morning. I only have 9 wedges. Fail.

Lurline has done a tutorial just yesterday on how to do them. I need help! I'm not a math whiz by any stretch of the imagination. I'm going to try again with Lurline's help, and if that doesn't work, I'll break down and buy the ruler.

A new Nutcracker

Another grouping of nutcrackers. No new altercations. But this new nutcracker may be sent to another room.

Mischief afoot

These guys have been living with us for many years. Every year they seem to grow in numbers.

Last night there was an altercation between a couple of them.

The General loped off the Fireman's arm.

While the Scotsman looked on and helped the General. All the while the Fireman said, "it's merely a flesh wound."

I'm afraid I had to send the Fireman the a Dr, but his health insurance isn't that good, so he may have to wait till another day to have his arm reattached.

I did manage to complete number 2 of 3 flannels. Today's goal is to pin the last flannel.

I'm a bad girl. Do you see the mess the flannel, fleece and batting made? I religiously oil my machine every Sunday. If it is linty, I remove it at this time. So all this build up is from Sunday till Wednesday. YUCK!

More stockings. That green one, may be my favorite. I love the feather cuff.

And more. There are 4 more left, but I'm giving 2 of them to my Daughter to decorate her apartment with. I'm still trying to think of a way to get rid of the other 2. They are not my favorites, so I find them ugly and think other people would too.

It's begining to look...

I think I finally have the Christmas spirit. It all started with the socks. I only wear socks, when I HAVE to wear shoes. Most of the time, I'm barefoot. Winter is not for me.

Then it was stockings. I made these several years ago to sell, and I sold maybe 2, so I'm now using them as window valances. I have more to show you tomorrow. These stockings were so much fun that I made 2 sizes. If anyone is interested in my pattern, I will gladly send you a copy.

Gallons and gallons of soup

Yesterday I finished 1 of 3 flannel throws. I feel like I have gotten back in my groove.
I did a backwards binding and just sewed it on. I think this will cut down on the wear and tear of the quilt. The binding is the only part of a quilt that I have had to repair, after it was loved too much by a child. More often then not, I am now sewing the binding this way for children's quilts. For a traditional quilt, I will still sew the binding down by hand.
Top and bottom pic. This will definitely keep someone warm. Flannel top, warm and natural batting, lastly thick fleece backing. This will be good to cuddle with on those 3 days we might have snow this year (my own prediction of Paradise's winter weather).
I made gallons and gallons of turkey soup. We had 3 turkeys for Thanksgiving, so all those other bits, besides the breasts, (legs,wings, back and all those bones) went into a BIG pot on the stove. I added 3 quartered onions, 1 whole head of celery, 3 bay leaves, 1/4 cup of peppercorns and filled the pot with water. It boiled for about 3 hours, until the broth reduced to half a pot. Let it cool. Then I de-boned it and filled containers for the freezer. Of course we have a pot for dinner, along with a nice crusty bread. We now have turkey soup antioxidants coursing through our body. This is one of my Husbands favorite things, after turkey sandwiches. He and PugsLee were picking in that pot all evening. He can't seem to get enough, well after all these container of turkey, maybe he will get his fill.
