Last week at my Guild meeting, I was gifted this old box of Hexie flowers.
I was so excited! For me this is better than a box of chocolate. Don't get me wrong, I like chocolate but I don't need it and once you eat it, it's gone. But this box of blocks will turn into a quilt someday and I'll have it forever!
The friend who gave them to me said that she has had them for years and knew she wouldn't get to them any time soon and she knows how much I like to hand sew, so they are now mine.
The problem? I've only done English paper-piecing but these have no paper and I'm afraid of folding in too much edge.
This will be a new challenge for me but I'm up for it! I like to have portable projects and this will become one of them, after I finish my quilt show quilt.
It was like Christmas in July!
If you have any tips to pass along, Please do!
Take care, Brandie

A friend sent me some flower blocks that were cut out from a VERY old quilt. I need to check back to see what your peeps say.
what great blocks you found! I've only paper pieced too, so sorry, no hints for you.
can't wait to see what you do with it.
You might try carefully basting back the seam allowances before you applique the flowers to the background.
I am no help at all. Your vintage hexies are beautiful and what a gift you received. Stay hydrated in this next triple digit heat wave...
Are they already sewn down to the background? If so, you can just join the blocks to make a top or if you want to make more blocks, use 1" hexies ( the standard size back in the day) and steam your flower good. Then remove the papers and appliqué it down. Easy peasy
Check out inklingo....I have an English Paper Pieced GFG quilt started.....and I think I'm going to change to the inklingo way of doing it...I'm going to draw the lines on the fabric by hand instead of running it through the printer since I've already cut it to the hexi size.....go on line and look it up it seems pretty cool.....
Super cute! So, they aren't appliqued to the light colored background?
